The Garden
My current practice explores the relationship and parallels between artist and gardener, including aesthetics, control and time. I am interested in questioning what a garden can be, exploring nature’s presence in human-made environments. Like many, houseplants are a prominent feature within my home, offering a way to bring nature indoors. "Echos of the Wilderness" was inspired by an encounter one evening, where I observed a number of my house plants casting captivating shadows on the walls, as if they were silently communicating. The title reflects the idea that, even within the confines of a domestic space, plants retain the essence of the wild.

Seed Heads
This body of work explores the decaying vegetal matter and seed-heads found in my own garden. Suspended in an in-between state, the seed-heads simultaneously suggest deterioration and new life. It is this process of deterioration, which is often disregarded, that I am interested in exploring. Working from life and a selection of my own reference photographs allows me to respond to the subject as it continues to transform.
SKIN AND FLESH SERIES
The Skin and Flesh body of work (2023) explores the decay process of banana skin and flesh, where the subject stands as a metaphor for the impermanence of life, and thus parallels can be seen with our own bodies and mortality. Although the spotting, bruising, and withering of the fruit threatens to repulse us, I aim to portray beauty within this decay.
